Video I: Intro to Video, Shooting & Editing
Do you have clients that need creative solutions for creating content beyond still photography? Learn how to harness the potential of the gear you already own and extend your skills. This five week course introduces photographers of intermediate or advanced skill to capture video using their DSLR. The course will center on the basics of video exposure, lighting for interviews, sound capture equipment and writing interview questions. At the end of the course, students will have learned the basic skills necessary for completing 60 second to three minute interviews for commercial application. Students will learn file importing, cutting, synching sound, transitions as well as exporting completed projects. This course will be taught utilizing Adobe Premier.
To participate in this class, student must be 18 years of age or the minimum of a high school graduate (or the equivalent).
Pre-requisite: Students must own mirrorless or DSLR cameras with video capability and must have a strong understanding of exposure and composition fundamentals. Lighting gear and sound gear will be provided for use during course demonstration.
About the instructor: Ronald Cowie
Ron Cowie is a Rhode Island based still and motion photographer. He is the principal owner of Oyster Farm Productions, a corporate video company and the Bert and None Gallery, an online gallery of fine art photography. Ron has lead workshops in landscape, creative portraiture, and 19th century photography at NESOP for eighteen years. He taught workshops and guest lectured at The George Eastman House in Rochester, NY, The Episcopal School in Alexandria, VA, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
His fine art work is in the permanent collection of the Newport Art Museum, Boston Public Library, and Maumee Valley Country Day School. His work is represented by Jessica Hagen Contemporary Art in Newport, Rhode Island and the Photo Eye Gallery in Santa Fe, NM.
He earned his B.S. in Anthropology from the University of Cincinnati and graduated from NESOP in 1998 with concentrations in editorial and advertising photography. Ron’s editorial client list includes, Yankee Magazine, Rhode Island Monthly, Bryant University, The University of Rhode Island, SO Rhode Island, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. He has a wide variety of commercial and corporate clients.
