Portraiture II – WINTER

Building on the skills explored in the Portraiture I course, this workshop focuses on location portraiture as well as advanced studio lighting. Through weekly lecture and in-class shoots, students will learn to recreate studio lighting on location through use of portable flashes, ambient light and lighting modifiers. In addition, new studio skills will be introduced including glamour lighting, gels and creative backgrounds. As in the previous portrait workshop, regular in-class photo shoots and critique as well as discussion and analysis of contemporary portraiture will help reinforce course content and support each student to as they continue to develop their personal style and begin the creation of their portraiture portfolio.


Portraiture I or equivalent knowledge.

To participate in this class, student must be 18 years of age or the minimum of a high school graduate (or the equivalent).

About the instructor: Ben Wight

Ben Wight is a Boston-based wedding and portrait photographer. The day after graduating from NESOP in 2007, he and a fellow graduate photographed their first wedding together; and thus Hitched Studios was started. He has spent the last ten years building his studio’s brand and bringing his unique style to weddings, working with clients locally, nationally and internationally. Committed to staying relevant in an ever-changing industry, Ben attends workshops around the country with some of the world’s top wedding and portrait photographers. After receiving his own accolades with PDN’s Top Knots award in 2010, he went on to receive Boston Magazine’s Best of Boston in 2011 and has received The Knot’s Best of Weddings five times. He has had photographs featured in magazines such as Boston Weddings, PDN, The Knot, Seacoast Bride, and Newport Weddings, to name a few. Outside of weddings, Ben works with a variety of clients ranging from local artists and small businesses, to larger companies like Gazelle and Converse. Inspired by the mentors and professionals from whom he learned, in 2012, he began teaching workshops at his studio in Somerville, MA. In 2017, he returned to NESOP to continue following his passion for education by sharing his real world experience with the next generation of professional photographers. To see Ben’s work, go to:
