This comprehensive introductory course will immerse students in the world of portraiture, giving them the skills to make dynamic photographs of people. Predominantly based in the studio, weekly lectures and demonstrations will provide a thorough understanding of controlling studio light, utilizing traditional portrait lighting patterns and styles, and subject posing. Course assignments will emphasize technical skill as well as creative and aesthetic considerations. Regular student shoots and critique as well as discussion and analysis of contemporary portraiture will help reinforce course content and assist each student to begin the development of their personal style.
Students must have a digital SLR camera with adjustable exposure settings and should be proficient with basic DSLR camera operation.
To participate in this class, student must be 18 years of age or the minimum of a high school graduate (or the equivalent).
