CAMP PHOTO- 2 Day Course: Cyanotype

This two day workshop is an introduction to one of the oldest photographic printing processes known. We will cover the history of the medium, negative making, printing, toning, and photograms. This is a fun, low-stress process with infinite possibilities which will result in those unique blue images artists know and love. All supplies will be provided, simply bring appropriate clothing for a darkroom experience. No darkroom experience necessary. (Since the inventors didn’t have any, why should you!) Let’s make art!

Prerequisite: Students must be age 15-18 yrs to enroll. All supplies will be provided for each student.

About the instructor: Ronald Cowie

Ron Cowie is a Rhode Island based still and motion photographer. He is the principal owner of Oyster Farm Productions, a corporate video company and the Bert and None Gallery, an online gallery of fine art photography. Ron has lead workshops in landscape, creative portraiture, and 19th century photography at NESOP for eighteen years. He taught workshops and guest lectured at The George Eastman House in Rochester, NY, The Episcopal School in Alexandria, VA, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

His fine art work is in the permanent collection of the Newport Art Museum, Boston Public Library, and Maumee Valley Country Day School. His work is represented by Jessica Hagen Contemporary Art in Newport, Rhode Island and the Photo Eye Gallery in Santa Fe, NM.

He earned his B.S. in Anthropology from the University of Cincinnati and graduated from NESOP in 1998 with concentrations in editorial and advertising photography. Ron’s editorial client list includes, Yankee Magazine, Rhode Island Monthly, Bryant University, The University of Rhode Island, SO Rhode Island, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. He has a wide variety of commercial and corporate clients.
