Alternative Processes: Cyanotypes – WINTER

This one day workshop is a fun introduction to one of the oldest photographic printing processes known. No previous photographic experience is necessary to participate. (Since the inventors didn’t have any, why should you!) The Cyanotype process has rather humble origins but is one of the cornerstones of photography. Its subtle range of tones, variety of blue colors, response to toning, and archival quality make this process a terrific jumping off point for any enthusiast of historical photography and processes.

All supplies will be provided, simply bring appropriate clothing for a darkroom experience.  To get the most out of this workshop, students should bring in negative(s) with which they will want to work.  We will cover the history of the medium, negative making, printing, toning, and photograms. Every student will get cyanotype chemistry to take home. This is a fun, low-stress process with infinite possibilities. Let’s make art!

To participate in this class, student must be 18 years of age or the minimum of a high school graduate (or the equivalent).
