The People

A Diverse Welcoming Community of Photographers

When you enroll in the NESOP Professional Photography Program, you join a diverse yet intimate student body made up of individuals from around the country and around the world. Motivated and creative, NESOP students bring distinct perspectives and specialized skills that contribute to our uniquely supportive atmosphere. Some students come to NESOP right after high school, others after completing higher levels of education and many others after pursuing alternate careers or interests. From the high school graduate eager to start on his/her career path to the MFA graduate seeking a cohesive, marketable, professional photographic portfolio, the common thread linking all NESOP students is a passion for photography. Our students share an enthusiastic commitment to grow technically and artistically as photographers and the desire to pursue photography as a career.

"...At other schools, I was seeing student work that looked like 'student work.'  When I found NESOP, I found students making work that looked like it belonged on magazine covers and in advertisements and museums...  As a graduate, I know the great images reflect the high quality of the [NESOP] education."

"Shooting campaigns for big clients like T-Mobile, HP and Milk is both technically and creatively demanding.  NESOP's Professional Photography Program prepared me to succeed in this very competitive [commercial] market."

A diverse, welcoming community of photographers

When you enroll in the NESOP Professional Photography Program, you join a diverse yet intimate student body of individuals from around the world.

Motivated and creative, NESOP students bring distinct perspectives and specialized skills that contribute to our uniquely supportive atmosphere. Many students come to NESOP right after high school, some after completing college and others after pursuing different careers or interests. From the high school graduate eager to start on a career path to the MFA seeking a cohesive, marketable professional portfolio—the common thread linking all NESOP students is an enthusiastic commitment to grow technically and artistically as photographers.

At NESOP, you benefit from small classes which encourage a close working relationship between instructors and students. The vast majority of our classes are hands-on/instructional format with a maximum of 20 students (though typically not exceeding 16). The few lecture-based classes that we offer have a maximum of 35 students.

Chances are, you will get to know most of your classmates and forge close friendships and collaborative relationships with students, faculty and staff. It is how we create a nurturing environment that many refer to as the NESOP family—the perfect place to advance your technical training, develop your personal vision and become a professional photographer.

Thriving in Today's Photo and Media Industry

NESOP's graduates are succeeding in all areas of the industry: Their images have graced the cover of Rolling Stone and have been featured in publications such as Forbes, Newsweek and Sports Illustrated.

From the Boston Metro to The New York Times, their published work is documenting and defining our history. They are opening studios and succeeding as portrait and wedding photographers. They are shooting campaigns for clients such as Nike, Sony and Pepsi and have been recruited to work with advertising industry giants such as Wieden + Kennedy and Ogilvy & Mather. They receive industry awards and recognition such as being named to PDN's 30, Boston Magazine's Best of Boston and being featured in the Communication Arts Annual.

Even the most recent NESOP graduates (from a few months to a few years out of school) have obtained the position of photo editor for the Boston Metro, Boston Magazine, Money Magazine and O, The Oprah Magazine. They are shooting regularly for emerging fashion and home decor retailers and are exhibiting and selling fine art work out of galleries throughout the U.S. and abroad. Our students are trained not simply to survive in the industry, but to develop personally and professionally rewarding careers that allow them to thrive as working professional photographers.
