“I instantly felt at home here…”

I was originally well on my way to becoming a worldclass athlete, but an untimely leg injury ended my running career. I found myself working at a photographic store, where I had access to free materials and processing. So I started dabbling in photography, and soon I was hooked.

I chose to come to NESOP because I knew I needed to learn the tools of the trade, about craft, and about the technical aspects of photography. With those in hand, I knew I could figure out what I wanted to say as a photographer.

I instantly felt at home here, even though I didn't have a lot of photographic training or experience. No matter what your background or level of experience, you're treated the same at NESOP. The strongest point of the school is the deep knowledge that you'll find here among the faculty. They share the essentials, and open the door to all aspects of photography.

“…the most important skill I learned at NESOP is the ability to think independently and creatively…”

I studied computer science. I have an MBA. And I worked with a retail investment and banking company. But though I've had a lot of diverse work experiences, I've always wanted to be a photographer.

When I decided to go back to school to study photography, I chose NESOP because I wanted practical experience and real—world insights about how to be a professional photographer. At first, NESOP seemed too good to be true. The other students were collaborative and encouraging. The faculty was all working professionals who knew the realities of the business.

I think that the most important skill I learned at NESOP is the ability to think independently and creatively—and to have confidence in my work. I hope to work in advertising, and NESOP gave me the traditional and digital photography skills I need to do high-quality, innovative work. But it also gave me the confidence to thrive in a demanding, creative business.

“…NESOP taught me how to see photographically, and challenged me to think and solve problems…”

I was living in New York and working in the film industry. I had always been fascinated with photography and decided to go back to school to study it. After weighing my options, I decided that an intensive, technically oriented program would allow me to learn what I needed to know in order to pursue my creative goals.

NESOP was the ideal choice for me. It offers everything you need to be a successful photographer—great faculty, intensive training and access to equipment.

Everything I've learned at NESOP has built on itself—from traditional photographic techniques to digital imaging to business skills. In the end, NESOP taught me how to see photographically, and challenged me to think and solve problems creatively—when shooting on location or in the studio. I'm sure that these experiences will prove invaluable when I am a working professional.
